Site AEO Audit

Paste a page URL and get a 0-100 citability score for AI answer engines like ChatGPT, Perplexity, and Google AI Overviews. The score comes from 26 measured checks across six categories, not from an AI's opinion, so the same page always scores the same and you can re-run it to see whether a change actually helped. Every failed check tells you the fix and what it's worth.

How it works

  1. 01 Paste the URL of a live, public page.
  2. 02 The tool fetches the page and measures 26 signals: answer structure, schema, headings, metadata, trust markers, and crawlability.
  3. 03 You get a reproducible score with a category breakdown and a fix list ordered by points recoverable.
  4. 04 Fix the top items, re-run, and watch the number move.

AEO best practices: do's and don'ts

The rules the audit grades against. Getting cited is mostly about making one specific passage easy to lift and easy to trust.

Do

  • Answer the page's main question in the first 40-80 words, in a paragraph that stands alone without the rest of the page.
  • Phrase subheadings as the literal questions people ask: "How much does X cost?" beats "Pricing".
  • Keep paragraphs under about 80 words so there's a clean unit to quote.
  • Add FAQPage, HowTo, or Article schema, and make sure it validates.
  • Put concrete figures, dates and measurements in the text, numbers get quoted, adjectives don't.
  • Name an author and expose a published or modified date.
  • Link out to the sources behind your claims; pages that cite tend to get cited.
  • Server-render your main content, most AI crawlers don't run JavaScript.
  • Add a short "Key takeaways" block near the top as a ready-made summary.

Don't

  • Don't bury the answer under 600 words of background and brand story.
  • Don't write vague claims like "significantly faster" with no number attached.
  • Don't rely on client-side rendering for the text you want quoted.
  • Don't ship broken JSON-LD. Crawlers ignore malformed structured data entirely, which leaves you worse off than having none.
  • Don't use multiple H1s or skip from H1 straight to H3.
  • Don't stuff keywords; answer engines extract meaning, not term frequency.
  • Don't leave noindex, nosnippet, or max-snippet:0 on pages you want cited.
  • Don't publish thin pages and expect citations, under 300 words rarely earns one.
  • Don't chase the score alone; a page that games checks but says nothing useful still won't be quoted.

Frequently asked questions

Answer Engine Optimization: structuring content so AI systems can read, understand, and quote it inside a generated answer. Traditional SEO competes for a position in a list of links; AEO competes to be the passage the assistant actually cites.

26 deterministic checks in six weighted categories: Direct answers (25 points), Structured data (20), Content structure (15), Metadata (15), Trust & freshness (15), and Crawlability (10). Each check either passes or fails based on what's measurably in the page, so the score is reproducible, the same page always returns the same number.

No. The score and every check are computed in code from the page's own HTML. AI is used only for the short content-notes section at the end, which reviews whether your prose is actually quotable, the one thing code can't judge. The number never depends on the model.

The "Fix these" list is ordered by points recoverable, so start at the top. Direct answers and structured data carry the most weight because they map most directly onto how an answer gets assembled.

Ranking and being cited are different problems. A page can rank on links and authority while still being hard to quote, long paragraphs, no direct answer near the top, no schema. Those are exactly the checks that fail here.
